The Boston Brass are coming to Utah Tech University! This internationally renowned brass quintet has been delighting audiences with colorful classical arrangements, burning jazz standards, and the best of original brass repertoire since 1986. While the Boston Brass has performed with many of the world’s finest bands and orchestras, their focus remains on music education.

The Boston Brass will give two workshops on the UT campus that are free and open to the public. These will be given on October 12th and 13th, both at 4:00 p.m. in the Eccles Fine Arts Center Concert Hall. The first workshop will be on musicianship, and the second will be on music entrepreneurship. Both will be excellent opportunities to learn from outstanding professional musicians.

Recently the Jeff Conner, who plays trumpet for the group, contacted Dr. Bryant Smith, Utah Tech Director of Bands, wondering if a partnership and performance opportunity could be created. The upcoming events are a direct result of these discussions.

As part of the collaboration, the Boston Brass will also perform a concert on October 13th at 7:30pm in the America First Performing Arts Center. Along with performing many outstanding pieces of quintet music, the Boston Brass will also perform selections with the Utah Tech University Symphonic Band. The music will be exciting and fun for both audience and performers alike! Tickets for the event are available through the Utah Tech ticket office: https://utahtech.evenue.net/events/BOSTON.

The residency is supported by the Utah Tech Music Department, the St George Arts Commission’s Spark The Arts grant, and the Washington County School District.

Dr. Smith remarked that, “This is going to be an outstanding opportunity for musical learning, growth, and entertainment! Come join us! I’m so excited for our UT Students to perform with these high caliber musicians, and I’m extremely grateful for Utah Tech University’s College of the Arts, Washington County School District, and the St. George Arts Commission for working together to bring the Boston Brass to St. George.”
