It is that time of year again where our halls feel very empty without our students… but that does not mean education stops! We are thrilled to have summer camps here in our buildings, teaching the arts to children of the local community.
We have the annual Castle Rock Music Camp, taught by our very own Music faculty. They are split into two different sections: strings and piano. Strings Camp is already in session this week, for ages 12-18, as they develop their skills. Piano Camp registration ends June 3. Similar to Strings Camp, it will run for a week, this time starting June 9. It is for ages 10-18. Each camp is $300, which includes a camp T-shirt and lunch each day. There are two artists-in-residence: William Hagen for strings and Kaden Larson for piano. Each day at Castle Rock is jam packed with classes and rehearsals, with a treat of a recital every evening. It all culminates on Friday with a final performance from the students and awards given. For more information, head on over to: https://music.utahtech.edu/castlerock/
This year, for the first time ever, we are offering theatre camps! They are taught by our Theatre faculty. Just as there are two music camps focusing on different aspects, theatre has two as well focusing on behind the scenes and onstage. Each runs for two weeks and campers get their own shirt to keep!
First, is Teen Technical Theatre Camp for ages 13-18, running from June 15-26 with a morning session for $200 or a full day session for $250. This master classes in Tech Theatre Design technical theatre trains teens in lighting, sound, scenic design, props, costume, and makeup through guided morning labs focused on portfolio development. In the afternoons, students may opt into a collaborative build lab, allowing participants to work alongside professionals on scenic elements for an upcoming production. Students will receive professional critiques from industry mentors as well as a final project and portfolio gallery showcase at the conclusion of the camp.
Then, from July 6-17 is Youth Immersive Acting Camp for ages 9-14, with a morning session for $200. Around the Table is an immersive theatre summer camp where young performers explore acting, movement, improv, and creative writing. Campers will learn the basics of acting, performance, improv, and creative storytelling through hands-on activities and ensemble work. The experience culminates in a brunch-themed interactive performance, with original scenes unfolding around the audience created by our campers. They have a final performance July 17 in our Black Box Theatre.
